Irish Darling asked:

I want to open restaurant in my home town. How can I find out if my type of restaurant (Traditional and Modern French cuisine) will be a hit in my town? I’ve lived and studied in France, I have traditional french recipes from my grandmother who came here from Alsace-Lorraine, and I’m a lover of all things french.

  1. go to Yelp.com and type in French restaurant and your city. See what people are syaing abut other competitve restaurants in the area. Also, see if there is an international market and ask if they get questions alot about french items. They should be able to show you some inventory numbers.

  2. Does your town already have a french restaurant? If so, how popular is it and does it get many customers? If it seems to be overflowing with customers then you should think about your location and distance it into a different commercial area. Also make sure the town you live in isn’t already restaurant overflowed. With your knowledge, a french theme should be a breeze. Our owners provide french cuisines and don’t even know half the crap they sell, so you already have a plus on that. Make sure you get the word out there. Radio, newspaper, etc… tell your friends to tell everyone else. If you are up to it you can work in a few restaurants for about a year just to get some ideas beyond your theme. Good luck!
